Scott Kuehl  Apr-23    Subject: SMU Scout night

The Pack 800 Cubmaster Alfredo Tamez asked that I pass on to you an exciting upcoming event. Below are the details and attached is the sign up form. Please coordinate plans to attend through Alfredo Tamez @ alfredotamez@yahoo.com

Dear Parent/Scout Leader,

On September 24, 2005, Southern Methodist University Football will be teaming up with the Boy Scouts of America to present Scout Night 2005. Scouts from all over the Dallas/Fort Worth area are invited to campout overnight on the field of Gerald J. Ford Stadium (on the campus of SMU) following the SMU vs. Tulane football game. SMU wants to provide local Boy Scouts and their families a safe and exciting place to spend a night creating a memory they will most certainly never forget.

The entire evening is jam-packed with events, beginning with a pre-game parade on the field. At 6pm, scouts and their leaders will parade the field proudly carrying their flags and banners representing their scouting affiliation, our state and our nation. Then be sure to be in your seats by 7pm when the Mustangs kick off against the Spartans.

Following the game, all scouts and chaperones will exit the building. This insures that your experience is safe and uninhibited by non-affiliated SMU fans and will give you a chance to retrieve your camping supplies and belongings from your car. All participants will gather outside of gate 5 to begin checking in for the on-field campout. At this time participants who have signed up will be allowed back into the stadium. There is limited space available, so please take this opportunity and reserve your spot today.

Once inside the stadium all campers will be allowed to set up their tents on one half of the field while the other half will be used for a variety of activities scheduled for the rest of the night. Some of the activities planned are a field goal kick, small soccer field, and football toss plus a couple of surprises. Then be sure to find a good spot to catch a movie that campers of all ages will enjoy on the stadium video board. But not to worry parents, 1:30am is lights out.

When signing up for Scout Night 2005, remember to follow some of these helpful guidelines. We want this experience to be exciting for both the scouts and their parent/leaders, so SMU requires a 1 to 5 parent/leader to scout ratio. When you mail or call in your order, payment will be due (Ordering deadline is September 9). When the transaction is completed, you will receive a packet including your tickets to the game, your patches that commemorate the evening, a parking map that will indicate where you may park, and a list of items you may or may not bring to our event. SMU will also include any special instructions and suggestions regarding camping gear and meeting locations.

This event will undoubtedly be a highlight for the scouts involved. With your help, SMU hopes to make this an annual event that will become part of the already storied tradition of SMU Athletics. Together, SMU and the Boy Scouts of America can become partners in helping enrich the lives of thousands of young men in North Texas. We look forward to seeing you on September 24th at Scout Night 2005.

Best Wishes,

Cole Horton
